Kawagoe Shrine Flea Market

If you have a passion for flea markets and a penchant for expanding your collection of Japanese treasures, then this excursion is tailor-made for you!

Join us on a day trip to the renowned Kawagoe Shrine Flea Market, as we journey together aboard a TIS bus during school hours. This market stands as one of Tokyo’s largest, boasting over 100 stalls brimming with an array of items, including antiques, pottery, kimonos, and obis. The flea market is a monthly spectacle, typically held on the 28th of each month.

Given the limited capacity on the bus, securing a seat is not guaranteed. Seats will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so be sure to act swiftly to secure your spot.

Date: Tuesday, November 28, 2023

Time: 8:30AM – 2:30PM

Meet-up location: TIS

Fee: ¥2,500 per person

The payment is due by Tuesday, November 21, 2023.

The buses will leave Kawagoe at 1:00PM so that we are back at school for around 2:30PM. Please be back at the collection point on time to ensure that our school bus is back at school ready to take children home.

You are more than welcome to bring visiting friends and family, but they need to be signed up with a TiS parent.

It’s advisable to bring sufficient cash, as there are ATMs within a 20-minute walk in case you run out or stumble upon a budget-busting treasure.

Keep in mind that many vendors tend to close up shop quite early, so it’s not recommended to expect them to hold your purchases until the bus pick-up time.

Typically, visitors spend 1-2 hours in the shrine and then venture to Kawagoe’s main street, which is a 20-minute walk from the shrine, for lunch. This main street itself is a day trip, so be sure to locate a restaurant promptly and then take your time to explore! Consider checking out some dining options in advance to make the most of your time before we head back on the bus home.
