Reading in the Primary Years
TIS - 1F Learning LabIn this workshop, you will learn evidence-based strategies to help your child improve their reading abilities. We will also discuss different types of reading difficulties and how to advocate for your child. This workshop is aimed for parents of students in Kindergarten to Grade 3.
Creating or Consuming? Technology and Your Child
TIS - 1F Learning LabYou may be familiar with YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, but what about Omegle, Discord and 4chan? In this workshop we will discuss the role and impact of technology in our lives and the lives of children. Topics that will be raised include: screen time, social media, digital citizenship at TIS (e.g. cyberbullying) as well as tips for device management.
Healthy Lunch, Healthy Snack / Nutrition Workshop
TIS - 2F Multi Purpose RoomHealthy eating is essential for our children’s well-being, growth and development. Setting healthy habits in childhood means that they will have less struggles with food-related issues, feel better and enjoy life more. Let’s inspire our children to learn about nutrition and the importance of conscious eating through our own dietary choices and healthy, tasty meals we make for them! Come and learn what “Brain food” is, as well as what “go”, “grow” and “glow” elements of a nutritional lunch are and what we, as parents, can do to influence our children’s eating habits.
Japanese New Year Cooking Class
Nishi Azabu Community CenterOsechi is the traditional Japanese food enjoyed on New Year’s Day. An assortment of colorful dishes packed together in special boxes. Each dish has a special meaning in welcoming the New Year. Sign up for a class and learn more about it. We are making an easier, plant-based and healthier version! Neurodiversity
TIS - 1F Learning LabA presentation for parents by leading expert, Denisse Moreno, from 1st Step on the topic of Neurodiversity. Denisse is a Mexican clinical psychologist who specializes in developmental and mood disorders, such as Autism, ADHD, Anxiety and Depression.
Cooking for Your Element
Nishi Azabu Community CenterHumans are different, and according to Asian food wisdom different personalities thrive on different foods. During this workshop, you will learn what your energetic element (wood, fire, earth, metal, water) is, your strengths and areas for improvement, and what type of food you should eat to feel best!
Earthquake Preparedness

Compassionate Systems

This will be a practical workshop – you’ll be using the tools and seeing how they support your own lives as well as those of your children.
